COMING UP -- SPRING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Please contact Janet Huseby, the BHS volunteer coordinator, if you are interested in any of the opportunities
listed below at jhuseby@pacbell.net or 527-1130.
Starting in March the school library would like to allow students to eat lunch in the library itself. The librarians are looking for a set of parents who could come in on a regular basis once a week (or every other week) to supervise the eating. Volunteers are needed from 11:20 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.
The beautiful student court has a defect: the acoustics make it difficult to hold meetings. One idea has been to hang flags from the metal struts that span the ceiling. Perhaps a flag from each of the nations represented at our school? If you are interested in working on this project, contact Janet Huseby.
Testing: The next exit exam for seniors and juniors is coming up at the end of March 21 and 22. Volunteers are needed to help check students in. In addition, in April we will see the STAR tests and in May, the Advanced
Placement Exams. Watch the etree for more specific information.
The Front Desk could use a few more volunteers. There are openings for one person on Thursday afternoons from 1 to 2:30 pm. and another person from 2:30 to 3:30 pm. We also need one or two people on Friday at lunch (11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.). The front desk volunteers play an important welcoming role at Berkeley High. If you are interested in learning a great deal about Berkeley
High, please contact Janet Huseby.
The next PTSA mailing will be Monday, May 1.
And, Calling ALL Volunteers, please Mark Your Calendars for Friday, May 12 from 7:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The administration is holding a Volunteer Coffee in honor of the many many people who generously give of their time to support our high school students. Among the volunteers are the 40 plus who helped in the summer mailing, the close to 200 who provided 600 hours to launch the school in September, the 40 volunteers who take shifts at the Front Desk, the 15 College Essay Readers, the 16 Tour Guides, the 58 volunteers who worked during the Exit Exam, and those who volunteer through the Writer Coach Connection, tutor through the Berkeley Volunteers, work with the PTSA, serve on BSEP and School Site Council, produce this newsletter, moderate the etree, keep the hard copy etree going, support the four small schools and two programs, work for the Athletic Fund and the Development group, and step out on field trips.
It is humbling and heartening to be part of such a vast community that "walks the talk." Please come celebrate together on May 12.
