FROM THE BERKELEY HIGH SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT GROUP (BHSDG)

RENT A DVD AND HELP BERKELEY HIGH!: Five Star Video now gives BHS a whopping 20% when we purchase its scrip. That means for every $100 worth of scrip the BHS community sells, we earn $20! Five Star will credit your store account with the total amount of the scrip you purchase, so you don't need to remember to carry the coupon with you. Five Star has two locations:
1550 University, just east of Sacramento
1501 Solano, just west of Nielsen.

This is an easy way to help BHS. You pay nothing, and Berkeley High benefits. To buy scrip for Five Star Video scrip -- or Berkeley Bowl, Peet's, Solano Avenue Association -- contact Linda Safarik-Tong at bhs_scrip@yahoo.com or 524-5544. With a minimum $100 order, we'll deliver your order to your door!

ESCRIP: Also, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE REMEMBER to sign up for ESCRIP! It's so easy and Berkeley High could earn lots of money if everyone signs up. Follow these simple steps:

Log on to www.escrip.com
Click on "Welcome" and then "sign up"
Choose Group ID 137646958 for BHSDG
Follow the directions from there

THANK YOU!

WHERE THE MONEY GOES: Because of the BHS community's generous support through the scrip programs and response to our fund-raising letter, the Development Group was able to fund these proposals in February:

  • Books for the English Department requested by teacher Amanda Green.
  • Expenses for School Psychologist William Bove's young men's group.

Projects the Development Group has supported this academic year include:
A counseling department college trip program

  • Forensic Debate Club tournaments
  • A day-long workshop for BHS math teachers
  • The Writers' Café and coach training for the WriterCoach Connection
  • Software for the science department
  • Publication of a Berkeley High 2006 Book of College Essays
  • Academic Pathways tutoring
  • A costume director for the drama department

The Development Group is an independent, non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation recognized by the IRS. For questions about the BHSDG, grants, or giving guidelines, please check www.bhsdg.org.
