Both the telephone calls and emails are part of a new communication system the school district installed this school year. Whereas previously the school was limited in the number of automatic phone calls it could generate during an evening (between 6 and 9 p.m.), the new system allows the school to dial every student's home in a five-minute period. In addition to using the technology for absence reports it is possible to generate a call in case of emergency or a special announcement. Sophomore families, for instance, received a phone call from Vice Principal Amy Frey informing them about the Exit Exam in early February. These special voice announcements are also sent out as email attachments.

Of course, phone calls and emails are only as reliable as the information you have given the school. If you change your phone number or email address, please let the school know.

And finally, a plug for the Berkeley High etree. The announcements above are short and to the point. Information about the day-to-day operation of the school and student activities is found on the Berkeley High etree. Currently the etree has over 2,300 subscribers who receive the Student Daily Bulletin, the College Advisor's Bulletin and a variety of other notices from Athletics to Drama to Volunteer Opportunities. To subscribe to the etree, please send an email to bhs-request@idiom.com with one word only in the subject line: subscribe. If for some reason your subscription doesn't "take," please contact Janet Huseby at jhuseby@pacbell.net or 527-1130 and she will subscribe you manually.
The etree is also available in hard copy in the Parent Resource Center, which is located on the second floor of the Administration building between the Library and the College Center.
